For detailed information on our three primary programs, please review our WOCNEC information packet.

The first six weeks of this particular ten-week program are devoted to Emory campus-based didactic instruction, followed by four weeks of clinical preceptorship and project completion that encompass three weeks of clinical, two days to complete the inservice requirement, and three days to be used as clinical "make-up" days by any student that needs them. Clinical assignments are selected to provide each student with a wide range of experiences in wound, ostomy, and continence care at a variety of clinical facilities in the metro-Atlanta area — those prospective students who wish to focus on just one or two specialties should see the single or dual specialty section below. All clinical experience is provided in tandem with an experienced and approved preceptor. Personal transportation is required, as most of the clinical facilities are off campus and often inaccessible by public transportation.

In order to assist applicants in selecting the course of study that best meets their particular needs and situation, the faculty have identified the advantages and disadvantages of each of the three program types. For the ten-week traditional program, the advantages are:

  green arrow Structured learning experiences
green arrow Wide range of clinical experiences

The disadvantages are:

green arrow Ten weeks absence from home and work
green arrow Intense and fast-paced theoretical component (all theory covered in five weeks; class held five days a week/eight–nine hours per day)
green arrow Increased expense (tuition + living expenses, i.e., housing and food; + travel expenses + lost salary)

 Single or Dual Specialty Course

While this program typically involves preparation for practice in the tri-specialty of wound, ostomy, and continence care, we also offer courses of study focusing on single or dual specialties:

  green arrow ostomy care only
  green arrow continence care only
green arrow wound and ostomy care

Please note that the professional practice component of the program is required for all students; the only exception being students who have already completed a WOCN-accredited specialty course. Tuition is titrated for single or dual specialty courses.
