Division of Trauma/Surgical Critical Care, Dept. of Surgery, Emory Department of Surgery

Directed by Grace S. Rozycki, MD, the division of trauma/surgical critical care staffs Grady Memorial Hospital's Trauma Center, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Burn Unit. Based in Atlanta, GA, Grady is one of the largest public hospitals in the Southeast.

green arrow Designated a Level I trauma facility, the Trauma Center is a state Center of Excellence that manages a wide variety of emergency cases. Of the thousands of injured patients evaluated each year, approximately 4,000 are admitted to the service, 37% of whom suffer penetrating injuries.
green arrow Approximately 70 patients per month are admitted to the SICU, with division faculty performing such bedside procedures as bronchoscopy, EGD, feeding tube placement, fasciotomy, tracheostomy and open abdomen dressing changes.
green arrow The Burn Unit is one of only two burn centers in Georgia and one of the largest in the nation, annually admitting between 300 and 375 patients — 30% of whom are children — with acute burns and inhalation injuries.

 Postgraduate Training

In addition to the rotations that general surgery, emergency medicine and oral surgery residents undertake in the Trauma Center, SICU and Burn Unit, the division offers an ACGME approved two-year trauma/surgical critical care fellowship that encompasses one year in trauma and one year in surgical critical care.
