Dr. Ricketts is the Surgical Principal Co-Investigator at Emory of the Pediatric Oncology Group. He has received various teaching award; was a member of Pediatric Surgery Training Program Directors from 1996-2006; sat on the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Surgical Section, 2002-2007; and was a member of the Nominating Committee of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, 2006–2007.

Amina M. Bhatia, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine

Dr. Bhatia has researched the molecular basis of esophageal atresia/tracheoesophageal fistula as well as pancreatic development, and studied the etiology of neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis. Her clinical specialties include neonatal surgery, laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery, Hirschsprung's disease, patent ductus ligation and adolescent gynecologic surgery .

Megan M. Durham, MD

Dr. Durham received her MD at Tulane University School of Medicine. After completing both her general surgery residency and her pediatric surgery fellowship at Emory, she joined the faculty. She has clinical and research interest in endoscopic, laparoscopic, and thoracoscopic surgery; newborn surgery; and adolescent gynecologic surgery.

Kurt F. Heiss, MD

Dr. Heiss currently serves on both the Ethics and Advocacy Committee (which he chaired from 2005-2006) and the Education Committee of the American Pediatric Surgical Association. He was Chief of Surgery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston from 1997-2000; Program Chair of the Surgical Section in 2002 and a member of the Scientific Committee from 1999-2002 of the American Academy of Pediatrics; and President of the Medical Staff at Egleston from 2003-2004. Dr. Heiss specializes in neonatal surgery, laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery, thoracic surgery, Hirschprung's disease, inflammatory bowel disease and health care delivery.

Paul M. Parker, MD

Dr. Parker specializes in neonatal surgery, necrotizingn enterocolitis, Hirschsprung's disease, thoracic surgery and minimally invasive surgery. He received his MD at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, did his pediatric residency at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Rochester.

In addition to her clinical positions as Chief of Surgery, Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital, and Chief of Pediatric Surgical Services, Grady Health System, Dr. Pettitt has directed the Department of Surgery's Surgical Clerkship (M3) since 2002, its M4 Programs since 2004, and the educational component of the Emory Endosurgery Unit since 2006. Her interest in surgical and medical education currently extends to her participation in a national needs assessment of volunteer surgical faculty from over 250 surgical training programs, as well as a survey to determine surgical resident knowledge of the "business of surgery." She is also investigating injury prevention, and is engaged in a randomized controlled trial of the acquisition and use of home safety devices and surveillance of pediatric injuries assessed in the emergency department.

In 1998, Dr. Ricketts recruited Dr. Wulkan to become the director of pediatric laparoscopy at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Dr. Wulkan initiated Egleston's Minimally Invasive Surgical Center in 2003, and since then the service has grown into one of the most high-volume pediatric minimally invasive programs in the country. He has also been involved in developing protocols for managing the possible negative aspects of inflating pediatric patients' abdomens with carbon dioxide so that there is room for surgeons to work laparoscopically. In 2007, he performed the first Lap-Band procedure to be done at Egleston to treat adolescent obesity.
