Emory University Hospital

Located on the Emory campus, this tertiary care facility is staffed exclusively by Emory School of Medicine faculty and is under a night float system. Call on the cardiothoracic service and SICU is q 4 or 5. The resident on transplant takes home call for his own patients. Senior residents take back-up call from home for general surgery, surgical oncology and vascular surgery. Residents attend clinic with assigned faculty once to three times a week.

Emory University Hospital Midtown

Located 4.5 miles from Emory in downtown Atlanta, Emory University Hospital Midtown's surgical patient population is primarily secondary referrals. Residents train with both Emory faculty and private attending surgeons. Call is from home. Residents attend clinics once to three times a week.

Grady Memorial Hospital

Predominately staffed by Emory physicians and residents in collaboration with the Morehouse School of Medicine, this public hospital in downtown Atlanta contains a Level I Trauma Center and regional Burn Unit. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding and the Grady campus of the Emory School of Medicine are adjacent. Trauma and general surgery are under a night float system. The SICU, burn, urology and plastic surgery services take in-house call q 4. Residents on the cardiothoracic surgery service take call every third to fifth night with the fellows. Residents attend clinic once or twice a week.

Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center

The surgery services at this primary and tertiary care facility for north Georgia veterans are staffed by Emory faculty. In-house call is taken by the second-year residents every third or fourth night; the sixth night is rotated between the second year and senior residents. The resident on anesthesia does not take call. General surgery residents attend clinic two days per week, while vascular surgery residents have clinic once a week.

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston

Residents train at this hospital on the Emory campus with four Emory faculty and three private attending surgeons. The facility includes a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Interns take modified night float one week in four on each rotation. The senior resident takes back up call from home. Residents attend clinic twice a week.

Piedmont Hospital

Residents rotate with private attending surgeons in both general and vascular surgery at this private hospital six miles from Emory in midtown Atlanta. Home call is the standard. Residents attend clinic with a designated attending surgeon once a week.
