Dr. Paul Krishbom and Others Embark on Siberian Medical Mission Heart to Heart, a non-profit organization based in Oakland, California, that develops self-sustaining pediatric cardiac care programs in Russia, has recruited and is sponsoring a team of medical volunteers from the Sibley Heart Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Emory University School of Medicine, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Mayo Clinic. Team members are traveling to the Tomsk Regional Cardiology Center in Tomsk, Siberia, where they will train a full team of Russian pediatric cardiac specialists from April 28, 2006 – May 14, 2006. Founded in 1989, Heart to Heart has organized over 40 medical missions to Russia, providing free medical services as well as extensive training and education. The Russian Gift of Life organization is also sponsoring the mission. Emory cardiothoracic surgeon Paul Kirshbom, MD, will travel to Siberia with a hand-selected team consisting of the following pediatric specialists:

"They are a stellar group of medical professionals, and we look forward to this unique opportunity." In addition, the following individuals from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Herma Heart Center will be providing cardiology support: Andrew Pelech, MD, Matthew Brown, MD, and Maryann Kessel, RN, MBA. Additionally, Frank Cetta, MD, Chief of Cardiology at Mayo Clinic and Josie Everett, Executive Director of Heart to Heart, will be overseeing operations in Tomsk. |
