Dedication of the John Bostwick Library In honor of the late John Bostwick, III, MD, and his family, The Bostwick Library was dedicated on September 14, 2005, at Paces Plastic Surgery and Recovery Center. Director of the division of plastic surgery at Emory from 1992 until his tragic death in 2001, Dr. Bostwick was one of the nation's experts in breast reconstruction after breast surgery and was instrumental in developing and refining the surgical techniques used to reconstruct a woman's breast with tissue from her own body. His book A Women's Decision — Breast Care, Treatment and Reconstruction received three printings and was credited with giving women a way of overcoming fear and becoming participants in the treatment planning process. Paces Plastic Surgery and Recovery Center was founded by T. Roderick Hester, Jr, MD, in 1993 and is now an integral part of Emory's residency training program in plastic surgery. During a recent expansion of Paces, Dr. Hester, who is the current chief of plastic surgery at Emory, decided to include a library and resident education center dedicated to Dr. Bostwick's memory. "As I was planning renovations for the clinic," says Dr. Hester, "I decided the library would be a wonderful way to recognize the incalculable contributions John made to the contemporary practice of plastic surgery as well as a means of expanding the educational resources available to Emory's plastic surgery residents." |
