Dr. Lattouf and Dr. Guyton Co-Chair Inaugural AIMS Summit on Biotherapeutics and Medical Designs More than 800 physicians, inventors, lawyers, venture capitalists and company representatives from all over the world are expected to attend the first-ever American International Medical Summit on Biotherapeutics and Medical Designs (AIMS on BioDesign) to be held September 18-20, 2006, at the Omni Hotel in downtown Atlanta. Dr. Robert Guyton, the Distinguished Charles Ross Hatcher, Jr., Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory, and Dr. Omar Lattouf, director of the Emory Center for Device Innovation and Associate Director for Resident Education of Cardiothoracic Surgery, will co-chair the summit. The event will offer educational sessions to facilitate invention, patenting and early-stage development of medical devices and will provide invaluable networking opportunities to support growing collaborations among industry, investors and academic institutions. This year's focus will be on endovascular intervention in cardiology, cardiac and vascular surgery, interventional radiology, interventional neurovascular therapy and critical care medicine. Dr. Guyton’s research qualifications are extensive and significant, including being PI on grants from the NIH and industry, serving as director of the Cardiothoracic Research Lab at Emory from 1980-1995, co-directing the Emory-Georgia Institute of Technology Biomedical Technology Research Center from 1986-1992, and being PI on the EAST trail comparing clinical outcomes between coronary artery bypass surgery versus angioplasty. Dr. Lattouf has research interests in minimally invasive valve technology, resynchronization therapy, TMR laser therapy for ischemic heart disease, left ventricular reduction procedures and stem cell delivery systems. |
