Overview Internationally recognized for clinical, educational, investigational and academic leadership in endoscopic surgery, the Endosurgery Unit was founded in 1992. Committed to advancing minimally invasive surgery through education, research and surgical treatment, the unit provides patients with state-of-the-art endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures while giving surgical residents the opportunity to participate in these procedures. Staffed by Emory general surgeons and directed by Dr. Edward Lin, the unit's clinical and research specialties encompass foregut, hernia, bariatric, colon and solid organ surgery. The unit's fellowship program, the first of its type in the nation, offers either one-year clinical fellowships with the option of a second year of research or one-year research-only fellowships. The unit also sponsors didactic and practical courses in laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repair, laparoscopic colon surgery, bariatric surgery, modern management of foregut diseases and other minimally invasive procedures.
