Dr. Cooper is the Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at Wellstar-Kennestone Hospital. He was instrumental to the establishment of the service at the hospital as well as initiating a rotation there for Emory cardiothoracic surgery residents. As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Medical Corps of the United States Army Reserve, he served in Al-Asad, Iraq, from 2003-2004, and at Eisenhower Army Medical Center from 2007-2008.
