Dr. Webb, chief of general surgery at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, specializes in colorectal, endocrine, and laparoscopic surgery. In the January 2010 edition of The New England Journal of Medicine, a study coauthored by Dr. Webb reported that cleansing a patient's skin prior to surgery with a chlorhexidine alcohol — instead of the more commonly used povidone iodine — had proven to be a more effective and powerful barrier to reducing or preventing infections.
